A few tips and tricks to help you get around!
IMPORTANT: don't drink the tap water. Ice is government regulated and perfectly fine but DO NOT drink the tap water.
Take out a maybe $100NZD in AUCKLAND airport and then exchange it at BALI's airport, you'll get a slightly less exchange rate than doing it on the street but it is worth doing. Nowadays most restaurants and stores accept eftpos but it is sill handy to have cash! ATM's dispense 50,000 or 100,000 notes ($5 & $10) and some have a max of 1,000,000 - 3,000,000. BCA ATM's typically let you take out the largest amount, and they are the most frequent.

At multiple times throughout the day, locals will put out offerings to the Hindu gods called Canang Sari, These are typically small woven baskets of flower petals, crackers, candies and lit incense. Try not to step on them or over them.
While not mandatory, you will see locals taking off their shoes when entering their street shops. If possible it is respectful to also take off your shoes when entering their street stall or a massage parlor. However, it IS mandatory to remove your shoes when entering some temples so pay attention to any signage.
When visiting the temples in Bali, it is also important to dress appropriately out of respect for the local culture and traditions. Both men and women should wear clothing that covers their knees. Sarongs and sashes are often provided at the temple entrances for visitors to cover up any exposed skin.
Wifi is absolutely everywhere. Your accommodation will have it, along with massage parlors, cafés and restaurants.
However, we still recommend getting a SIM card as well, this way if you're out and about you'll still have access to the internet! The card and all the data you would need is about $25 NZD. We suggest using TELKOMSEL (below) and it can be purchased on your way out of the airport (you'll see them)
These are everywhere and are super handy for picking up some snacks, drinks and beer along with sunscreen, mosquito repellant, toothpaste etc etc
Here you will find everything you would find in a pharmacy back home. Plasters, vitamins, betadine, soaps, electrolytes, makeup and pain killers. You can also get antibiotics over the counter without a script as long as you know the name of the one you need. Alternatively, the pharmacist can recommend on for you if you're unsure.
Doctors will come to your hotel for around $50NZD. Below is the doctor we recommend along with their Whatsapp number in the unlikely event that you need them.

Everyone here uses GRAB, it is exactly like UBER, you can order taxi's as well as ordering food to your hotel. We highly recommend linking your debit card to your account, that way you don't have to worry about drivers not having change or not having the right money for your food order. Below is what the app looks like in the playstore for easy download.
If you need picking up from the airport there is a GRAB lounge right outside where a car can pick you up! Just follow the crowds through to the exit and it is the big lime green building just inside the car park.
This is the app most people here use for messaging, its kind of like Facebook messenger. Its not NECESSARY but should you find a driver you want to use another day, want to arrange a tour or see a doctor, WhatsApp is how you contact them.
